Mission Statement: Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society is an established non-profit organization committed to delivering career and work-related services for the benefit of clients and the community. Through the expertise of our staff and labour market resources, we provide access to opportunities that advance individuals toward employment.

The Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society (JOBS) is a non-profit organization incorporated in March 1984. It is registered with the Private Post Secondary Education Commission (PPSEC).

From 1977 (prior to the Society's incorporation) to 1995, services were offered through a Federal Outreach contract. In 1995, after a two-year community consultation process, a "One Stop Shop" model was adopted. The Career Centre became the point of entry and registration for all unemployed individuals, acting as the assessment and referral centre for the Parksville/Qualicum region.

In November of 2001, the Society opened OYE! Oceanside Youth Employment to provide employment related services and support to those aged 15 through 30. OYE! is now housed within The Career Resource Room, sharing an expansive selection of resources and services.

CVI JOBS provides the communities of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose Bay, Coombs, Errington, and Bowser with employment-related services, programs and resources. We are open to all unemployed, employment-ready, and employment-threatened individuals.

Since our press releases often refer to certain client groups in relation to benefit type, here is a list of definitions:

  • Employment Insurance (EI):
Administered by the Government of Canada - Service Canada (formerly HRSDC)
  • Active EI:
Currently have an Employment Insurance (EI) claim and are receiving EI payments.
  • Reachback (RB):
Received Employment Insurance benefits within the past 3 years, or the past 5 years if it was a Maternity or Parental Benefit.
  • BC Employment and Assistance:
Administered by the British Columbia Ministry of Employment And Income Assistance (MEIA).
  • Employment Assistance:
    Receiving Provincial Employment Assistance (EA)
  • Mutual:
Financial assistance from a combination of Federal Employment Insurance and BC Employment Assistance defines a "Mutual Client". This may mean that there is a low Employment Insurance claim and the client is eligible for BC Employment Assistance as well, or that the client is a Federal "Reachback Client" and is currently receiving BC Employment Assistance.
  • "No Benefits" or "Regular Client:"
Not in receipt of Employment Insurance or BC Employment Assistance
