Ten-Year Employment Outlook for BC Optimistic

    Friday, October 9th, 2009

The Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development recently released the Ten-year Employer Outlook for British Columbia COPS BC Unique Scenario 2007-2017. The report indicates that 876,400 job openings are expected to be created in BC over this 10 year period. The downturn in the economy may not have a huge impact on these job openings as over 60 percent of the projected growth will be from retirements. With the growing demand to replace skilled workers who will be retiring now is a good time to “skill up” as more than three quarters of the projected total job openings are expected to require some post-secondary education.
