National Volunteer Week

April 18 – 24, 2010 is National Volunteer Week. It is a week to celebrate the many volunteers in our community and their contributions. If you are a volunteer in our community – thank you! If you have been thinking about volunteering, why not commit to investigating opportunities during National Volunteer Week.

Why volunteer? There are so many reasons why people volunteer – from the intrinsic value of helping another person – to the opportunity to gain more skills and experience. At the Career Centre, we encourage job seekers to volunteer as it can benefit them in various ways, such as:

  • Maintaining a sense of worth and accomplishment while job searching
  • Increasing their opportunities to explore various types of jobs and learn more about them
  • Gaining more work experience and skills that can be included on a resume
  • Meeting new people and increasing their network
  • Demonstrating to employers that they are motivated and value their community

The Oceanside Volunteer Association has opportunities listed on their website. Consider an appoinment with an Employment Consultant at The Career Centre to further explore your interests and volunteer opportunities.
