Shelter Support Worker 2 will assist Shelter Support Worker 1 to provide a warm, safe, comfortable overnight shelter for up to 8 guests who are homeless. Support Worker 2 will assist Support Worker 1 in providing a dinner and breakfast meal, maintaining a tidy environment and, as requested by guests, connecting them to other community services.
Oceanside HEART Society is an ecumenical group working together to create a safe, welcoming and caring environment offering temporary overnight cold weather shelter. We are a non-profit society looking for employees comfortable working in a team environment. This position will be starting immediately and continuing to March 31, 2021.
Education required:- Certificate qualifications such as Counselling Courses, Addictions Courses, Non-violent crisis intervention/ de-escalation, Managing Hostile Interactions would be an asset, but not required
- Willing to get a Criminal Record Check: with Vulnerable Populations Check
Training with the Society:
- Covid 19 protocols
- Policies and procedures
- Trauma informed – non-violent crisis intervention/de-escalation
Qualified College Certification would be an asset but not required
Experience & skills:- Demonstrated interest in working with those who are homeless, experience with vulnerable populations, relevant lived experience, experience working with seniors, or experience with people who are self-medicating
This position will offer an introduction to the requirements and rewards of working with community to assist a vulnerable population as well as the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced shelter support workers.
